Your phone or smartphone won't turn on? There are solutions! What happens if you drop your phone? What happens if you drop your smartphone on the floor?

  • check the presence of voltage in the sockets;
  • replace the cable;
  • use a different charger.

First of all, you need to make sure that there is current in the outlet to which the charger is connected. No matter how funny it may seem, this is the most common problem with charging any gadgets. That is why support specialists from large companies begin the conversation by asking whether the user is sure that there is voltage in the outlet.

The charger cable for connecting the phone suffers much more often than the adapter itself. This is due to careless operation, pets damaging the wire and other reasons. Most modern cell phones charge using a mini-USB or micro-USB connector and allow you to change the cable without changing the adapter.

You can purchase such a cable at any communication store or computer store; in addition, the user usually has several identical cables at home.

Advice. You can often check the operation of the charger by charging the device from a computer. If the process goes without problems, then it is definitely necessary to replace the adapter.

Power button

The power button can also cause trouble for cell phone owners. It may fail, for example, after an impact. Sometimes problems with a button can be seen during an external inspection, but in other cases it is difficult to diagnose the problem yourself.

Most users will not be able to solve the problem with the Power button at home, so if you suspect that the handset does not turn on because of it, you should contact a service center.

Updates

Installing updates is designed to solve identified problems with the device. In practice, this operation can lead to unpredictable consequences. It must be carried out only after understanding and taking into account all the risks. For example, handsets running Android often begin to consume battery power faster after an update.

In some cases, the update causes the gadget to stop turning on completely. Many users encountered this problem in 2015 when they tried to update the Android operating system to the latest versions.

Let's look at the main ways to solve problems that arise after the update:

  • rollback version or updates;
  • installing another version;
  • restoring the device through a special mode.

If it is impossible to apply one of the methods yourself, then you will have to seek help from specialists.

Important. In some cases, an update can significantly improve the performance of a gadget, for example, by increasing battery life. Therefore, it is necessary to evaluate the possible pros and cons before performing this operation.

Mechanical damage

Very often, phone users encounter startup problems after various mechanical damages. They occur when the phone is dropped or dropped into water.

Many gadget owners do not even notice falls, or they occur even without their knowledge, for example, when children use a smartphone. But the most common consequence is problems with the screen and is quite obvious.

If your phone won't turn on, there is a reason for it. But finding it is not an easy task. It’s easier when you guess or know what happened to the device, which is why it stopped turning on. We tried to collect all possible reasons and recommendations on what to do in each specific case: when the situation can be corrected on our own, when the help of repair specialists is inevitable.

Possible reasons why the phone does not turn on

  • dead battery

The battery is the first thing to check in this case. Connect the charger and leave it for 30 minutes. Sometimes, after a complete discharge, the device can only turn on after some time - just about an hour or so later. If that doesn't work, check the charger directly. Ideally, borrow it from someone: the reason may be in the block itself. If everything is fine with it, check the battery.

Leave the phone to charge for a day, but if there are no positive changes, it is possible that the reason is a damaged battery. However, in this case, it will be better for everyone if a specialist confirms or denies this. (If you need this advice, please contact our specialists, the Remfon service center. If you cannot cope with the problem yourself, during a free diagnosis they will be able to accurately determine the cause of the malfunction).

  • hold the power button a little longer

There is no technical explanation for this point as such, but folk wisdom says that sometimes when the phone (and the smartphone in particular) does not turn on, holding the on/off button for a long time can help. Press and hold for 10 seconds.

  • problem with memory card

If your phone has a memory card installed, remove it when you turn it on. If the device turned on, then the problem was hidden there. It is possible that you will have to change the flash card.

  • the device got a little wet

If water gets into the phone, this is a sure sign that the device may not work correctly. In all cases when there is water penetration into the gadget, especially sea water, sweet water, beer water, etc., it is better to show the device to repair specialists. Since its normal operation can be interrupted at any moment, and timely cleaning, high-quality drying and elimination of corrosion will help to avoid more global consequences. So if you know for sure or guess that the device might have gotten wet for some reason (using it in the bathroom, in the rain, you don’t have to drop it in water), this could be the reason why the phone won’t turn on.

  • a fall

Even a slight drop of the phone can disrupt its normal and correct operation due to various internal damages. When viewing, an experienced technician will always determine whether the device has been dropped, so there is no point in hiding it in the workshop. If the phone does not turn on after a fall, then we advise you to immediately take it to a repair shop: you are unlikely to be able to find the reason on your own, and there is no point in doing so; you still will not be able to fix it without professional help.

  • software failure

Only experts can establish this reason, so there is no point in advising anything here. In addition, take the phone for diagnostics.

  • failure of microcircuits

This may be either your fault in case of careless handling of the device, or the fault of the manufacturer. A repair specialist can tell you more. Opening the phone yourself and trying to look for something there will once again harm it.

If the phone turns on and off

Among the reasons why the phone does not turn on or turns off periodically, there may be a problem with the on/off button. This happens due to wetness and insufficient drying, possible factory damage, strong unsuccessful pressure, falling, etc. Outwardly, this breakdown may not be obvious to you.

If the phone turns on and then turns off, this indicates a problem with the battery or the connection between the battery and telephone contacts.

The following actions can serve as a signal of damage to internal elements, including due to an impact: press firmly on the case; if the phone turns off or freezes, damage to the board or other elements is likely.

The phone does not turn on after flashing the firmware

This is a separate problem that occurs quite often among those who decide to reflash their device. For some reason, everyone is sure that it’s easier to do it correctly, but in the end the gadget doesn’t even turn on. While searching for an answer on the Internet, they end up with an adviser, whose actions further aggravate the problem. There is only one way out and the most reliable one - yes, yes, contact a quality service center. You don’t darn suit pants yourself, so why do it from your phones.

Anything that cannot be fixed in gadgets by simply rebooting and turning it on/off should be trusted to professionals. To people who, day after day, bring to life dozens of devices just like yours. And they will tell you the exact reason and cost of repairs. It will be much cheaper and faster than trying to learn the laws of electronics on your own.

Exposure of a mobile phone to water leads to unpleasant consequences, so you should strive to avoid this at all costs. But in life there is always room for surprises, no matter how careful the owner is. Your small children or your own absent-mindedness can help you with this. The device may fall out of your pocket and fall into the water or accidentally fall inside the washing machine. But you never know what can happen. Of course, there are many types of different protective covers, but they won't help you much against water. Moreover, you don’t have to drop your phone in water or wash it in a machine; sometimes it’s enough to get caught in the rain, and minor troubles are guaranteed. So, what should you do if your phone falls into water and doesn’t turn on? In this article, we’ll look at what you can do on your own if you don’t have the opportunity to go to a service center or repair shop right now.

Saving a wet phone

People often ask: does a phone need repair after water damage? Let's decide what actions need to be taken in case of such unpleasant surprises:

  • If the device is being recharged when it gets into water, the first thing you need to do is unplug the charger from the outlet. Then you need to remove the battery from the device to prevent oxidation, since in this case you will have to change the battery. And only then get a SIM card and memory card, if you have them.
  • When all accessible elements have been removed, you can try to disassemble the phone. If you have never done this and are not confident in your abilities, then it is better to contact a service center. Experienced craftsmen will help you in this matter. Repairing a phone after water is a very real thing, especially if it is an expensive model. Of course, it is necessary to deliver the “victim” to a specialist as soon as possible so that the water does not completely finish him off.
  • If you still decide to disassemble it yourself, then act as carefully as possible so as not to damage the screen or other parts. Use the video instructions for disassembling this or a similar model.
  • After all actions, carefully shake out the liquid from the device.
  • Now you need to dry your phone properly.

Also, do not try to thoroughly wipe the smartphone and its internal parts. Such procedures must be done carefully, using blotting movements. Otherwise, you will only “press” the water even deeper into the device.

  • It's best to put it on napkins. The gadget must be disassembled as much as possible, the drying area must be dry and warm. Don't touch it for several days.
  • Some people advise placing the device in uncooked rice for a while. Rice absorbs moisture well, and there's a good chance it will help your phone too.
  • Small bags with a special substance absorb moisture well and are placed in shoes, wallets and other products so that they do not become damp. If you were prudent enough and collected these bags, then your phone will have a better chance.
  • Some experts advise wiping the mobile phone parts after getting wet with alcohol to prevent the contacts from oxidizing.

When all the parts are dry, you need to carefully assemble your device and try to turn it on. If it doesn’t work, then you still have to go to specialists - they will determine for sure whether the phone can be repaired after water damage.

Important! The sooner you start the rehabilitation process, the better the chances of your mobile friend.

How to avoid a similar situation?

  • Do not carry your smartphone inside your pants pockets.
  • Don't take your phone into the bathroom with you, even if you're expecting a very important call. 5 minutes will not be critical.
  • If you find yourself in bad weather, immediately put your phone in the farthest corner of your bag, backpack, or at least just in the inner pocket of your outerwear.
  • If your phone does fall into water, turn it off as soon as possible and disassemble it as best you can.

We hope you were able to restore your gadget to working condition, and you did not lose valuable information from it. From now on, be more careful!

The worst thing that can happen to a phone after a slight fall is that the trace in the middle of the board breaks.

This breakdown can usually be repaired only by replacing the entire phone board, which, in fact, can be equated to buying a new phone. All that remains from the old phone is the body, screen, cables and speakers with microphones. But this can also be beneficial, because... For some models, the main cost of the phone is determined by the screen. But there are exceptions; some boards can be restored.

It can be very difficult to determine such a breakdown by external signs.

A less terrible thing that can happen to a phone if it falls slightly is that some kind of microcircuit breaks off, of which there are quite a few in the phone, from the processor, flash drives, power controllers, to radio switches and high-frequency microcircuits that are responsible for connecting the phone to the network.

In this case, the main difficulty is to find what exactly is missing, which microcircuit.

What to do if your phone falls into water? This is not such a simple question as it might seem at first glance. Especially if the phone is touch-sensitive. After all, such a situation can happen in the life of any person. No matter how confident a person is in his careful and careful attitude towards the telephone, no one is immune from an emergency.

What to do if your phone falls into water, and for what reasons could this happen?

Firstly, it can simply get wet from the rain. But that’s what cases and other accessories are made for. But they don't always save. The phone may fall into a river or lake while on vacation, or it may be accidentally forgotten in your pants and put in the washing machine. It can also be accidentally dropped into a bucket filled with water while cleaning, or simply doused with tea or juice. All this will lead to malfunctions of the device. But how to deal with this and what to do if the phone falls into the water?

A set of measures to rescue a drowned phone

If your phone falls...

Phone and water are not compatible things, but, unfortunately, you can only reliably protect your phone from harm if you don’t use it at all. We always carry a mobile phone with us so that we can answer the call or make a call at any time. What to do if your phone falls into water? After all, you can accidentally drop it in a puddle, or in the sink, or even completely forget it in the washing machine.

The phone fell into the water: actions

  1. You need to get your phone out of the water as quickly as possible. The longer it spends in the water, the less chance it has of being restored, and vice versa, the sooner you get it out, the less damage it will receive. So, if you dropped your phone in a puddle for a split second, there is a very good chance of saving it, but if it was in the drum of a washing machine for almost an hour, then it’s better to say goodbye to it right away.
  2. Turn off your phone - if it didn't turn off when you dropped it or was working when you dropped it, turn it off immediately. If the phone works when you take it out of the water, this is not a good sign, and the extent of the damage can only be assessed after a certain period of time.
  3. Disconnect the battery and disassemble it if possible. The battery must be disconnected immediately, otherwise a short circuit may occur, and it doesn't take much for thin wires and phone chips to damage them. Therefore, the power source must be removed immediately, and at the same time, possibly save the battery.
  4. Remove the SIM card. If you store phone numbers on the card and not in the phone's memory, removing the SIM card will help save them. The longer the SIM card is in water and remains wet, the greater the risk of damaging it.
  5. Do not try to turn it on until it is completely dry - you will not be able to make sure that the phone is working right away, and any attempt to turn it on while it is still wet inside can only do harm. It will dry for at least a day, but it’s better not to touch it for a week, it will be much more reliable. So, leave him alone and don't disturb him.
  6. What to do if your phone falls into water? There are also so-called people's councils. You can protect your phone by immersing it in alcohol (according to unverified data, in vodka) immediately after contact with water. As you know, alcohol is harmless even to microcircuits and delicate connections, and besides, it absorbs water. So, immerse your phone in alcohol, it will draw the water out of the phone, leaving the parts intact. Naturally, first disconnect the battery.
  7. An undisassembled phone with a disconnected battery can be dried in a container of rice, rice absorbs moisture and can help dry the phone faster, if you have silica gel on hand, it can also help. It is important that the phone is dry from the inside, and a hair dryer or dryer will not help with this, since they only dry the outer parts without penetrating the inside. Leave the phone in a jar of rice for several days, only then you can connect the battery and try to turn it on.
  8. If you can disassemble the phone yourself and then put it back together correctly, have done this more than once, and are confident in your skills, then you can after you take it out of the water. Wipe the parts with alcohol or at least a dry cloth; you may have a solution that will help avoid corrosion. Place the parts on napkins and leave them alone until completely dry, or dry them with a hairdryer. In the case of a disassembled phone, a hairdryer can help, since it dries the parts directly; quick drying with hot air will reduce the time the parts come into contact with water. Once the parts are dry, reassemble the phone and check if it works.
  9. What else should you do if your phone falls into water? Take it to a repair shop - ideally after drying, such as in a jar of rice, or a week of rest. This is a must for owners of phones with a non-removable battery. Take it to a service center as quickly as possible. Repair can also help if the phone does not turn on after the measures you have taken; they can replace the damaged parts or battery. By paying money for repairs, you may not lose the data on your phone - numbers, photos, messages. For some, this is much more valuable than any amount.

If nothing works

What to do if the phone fell into the water and could not be saved. All goes to good!

In this article I will talk about the reasons why the screen/display on your phone does not work, and what to do in this situation.

Let's start in order.

First steps and theory

The development of the mobile industry has taken the direction of increasing the size of the display and minimizing the number of mechanical keys. The screen is the main way you control your device, and damage to it can turn your phone into a useless pile of metal. There are many options for the screen to malfunction: from the appearance of small spots and defects to its complete inoperability.

Each breakdown is unique and requires separate consideration. You must be sure of the reason for the inoperability, otherwise dishonest service workers may profit from you. First of all, you need to make sure that everything is in order with the software part of your device. To do this you need:

  1. Connect the charger to the device, let the battery charge a little
  2. Turn on your device. Connect your mobile phone to your computer

If synchronization is successful, but no changes occur on the screen, the problem is in the components. Let's look at the main causes of malfunctions in the operation of the mobile phone screen and explain them.

Phone screen not working due to mechanical/physical damage

Every smartphone crash is a kind of lottery; everyone is lucky differently. One mobile phone may be left without a single scratch if dropped from a great height, while another may be damaged if it accidentally collides with a hard surface.

Mechanical damage is easily diagnosed with the naked eye. A growing crack, and often a “cobweb,” appears on the phone screen. There can be several outcomes in such a situation:

  1. Damage to the protective glass and stable operation of the device
  2. Image display but sensor damage
  3. Complete screen failure

Replacing damaged protective glass depends on the device. Modern models are equipped with combined screens with a sensor and protective glass, which allows for minimal thickness. Replacing such components is expensive and requires replacing not only the protective glass, but also other components. The same principle applies to a damaged sensor.

If the protective glass is damaged, but the screen works, this is not a reason to continue using this device. It is recommended to urgently contact a service center, because your phone becomes vulnerable to moisture and liquid, which can cause more serious damage.

The phone did not fall, but the screen does not work. Causes of failure

Loss of functionality of a mobile phone screen can be associated not only with mechanical damage to the outer side of the display. Moisture, damage to the screen control chip, wear or disconnection of the cable, and other reasons depending on the specific model can cause the phone screen to become inoperable.

Moisture and liquid entering the phone body

Everyone knows from an early age that water has no place in electronics. If moisture or liquid gets into the phone, it can lead to the destruction of the contact board, short circuits and other critical phenomena that impair the functionality of the device.

Destruction of contacts on the board may require both routine cleaning and replacement of many components. If water gets into the device, it is recommended to immediately contact a service center for help. Water getting into the screen of a mobile phone can cause characteristic streaks and stains, which can be corrected by replacing the screen or modules.

Screen control chip failure

Failure of microcircuits in a device is not uncommon. The screen does not receive the necessary information from the device and does not display an image. It is impossible to identify this problem using standard means; it will be determined at the service center. Damage can only be corrected by replacing components.

Worn or disconnected cable

The cable connects the mobile phone screen to the device and is replaceable. This solution allows you to quickly replace the screen without interfering with the device board, but adds the possibility of detachment upon impact. Connecting the cable will not take much time and will not hurt your pocket.

Cable wear is typical for flip phones and sliders. In such devices, constant physical contact is created when opening and closing, which over time leads to a faulty state. In such cases, the cable is replaced at the service center and does not require the purchase of a screen module.

Dead pixels and spots on the screen

There are a lot of situations when our smartphone can come into contact with water. You might get caught in a heavy downpour, knock over a cup of drink onto a nearby smartphone, or even drop your phone into the water while taking a hot bath. Recently, smartphone manufacturers have been trying to introduce water protection into their devices. However, the percentage of such devices is still very small, so our article will be relevant for a long time.

We will tell you what not to do if your smartphone gets wet, as well as several ways to correct the current situation.

1. Remove the smartphone from the water, turn it off and disassemble

As we were taught in life safety lessons, the first step is to get rid of the source of danger. In our case, we immediately take the device out of the water and turn it off. The smartphone has both slots and connectors for headphones/charging, through which water can instantly reach the insides and can cause a short circuit. After you take out the phone, you need to wipe it with a dry towel and also remove the battery. This will completely de-energize the device and reduce the likelihood of a short circuit to zero. We recommend removing the SIM card and memory card along with the battery.

IMPORTANT

Do not turn on your smartphone until you have completed all instructions.

2.Wipe all parts of the device well

After you take out the device, you need to wipe it thoroughly with a dry towel to get rid of all visible moisture. Do not use regular napkins or paper towels. It's no secret that paper napkins not only absorb moisture very well, but also quickly get wet, breaking up into small fibers. These lint will get caught in the holes and crevices of the device and will only make things worse.

Take a rag or cloth towel and wipe the device dry both outside and inside if water does get there. Do not leave a single drop on the surface, because any little thing can cause corrosion and render the device inoperable.

3. Hair dryer or vacuum cleaner?

For most people whose phone has fallen under water, the following situation occurs. They successfully complete the first two points of our article, but then they begin to search for additional solutions, what else can be done for the wet device. The most popular options are a hair dryer and a vacuum cleaner.

REMEMBER! Never use a hair dryer to dry your phone. Contrary to the idea that hot air will quickly dry out all the moisture, you need to understand: the air flow will not only drive the water even deeper, but can also melt some parts.

To speed up the drying process, you can use a vacuum cleaner. When drying, do not hold the hose too close to the smartphone; carry out the procedure for 7-10 minutes.

4. Put the phone in the sun in a box with absorbent or rice

Finally, when all the main steps are completed, you can begin the longest stage. The disassembled phone (we took out the battery, SIM card, flash drive) needs to be placed in a container with an absorbent substance. You've probably seen bags of this substance in shoe boxes.

You can purchase such a substance in the store in advance, in case of such an unforeseen situation. But, if the water ingress takes you by surprise, regular rice may be suitable as a “homemade substitute.” Place the device in the substance for a day and turn it over periodically, allowing water to drain out of all crevices. Only after the day has passed, having made sure that all the water has left the phone, can you try to start it.

If the device does not work, feel free to go to the service center.

5. What not to do

Finally, we would like to list what you absolutely cannot do if your phone falls into water.

  • You cannot turn on the device right away. You can turn on the phone only after complete drying, when you have waited enough time for all the moisture to leave the device. Naturally, in a “wet” state, it is strictly forbidden to connect the device to a power source (put it on charge or connect it to a computer).
  • Do not disassemble the device into parts. Most likely, you are not an expert, and by taking your smartphone apart (more than taking out the battery), you will only make things worse. The water will get even deeper, and you will break something.

All the best. Take care of yourself and your phones :)
